Premium Pension limited has received UK’s International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certificate on information security management system by the British Standard Institute.
This makes the company the first Nigerian pension fund administrator to receive such certification.
At the certificate presentation Thursday in Abuja, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Simon Shercliff said that it very important for any institution that wants to sign up to international standards to obtain the ISO certification.
“It means they have the credibility to conduct their profession according to a standard which everybody recognises,” Shercliff told newsmen.
He said “Imagine a world where there are no pensions and safety nets for workers who are honest, life would be considerably tougher for all of us. The work you do is incredibly important for individuals in every society.”
Shercliff said that In the British government, information security is very important as some of information because the government has got the procedures, policies and people to protect those information.
The Chief Executive Officer of Premium Pension, Wilson Ideva said the certification told newsmen that the certification is self-imposed and not regulatory as the company desires to earn the best possible customer confidence.
He said “We have decided to do this to meet the expectations of our stakeholders especially valued RSA holders, and the legacy fund owners.
“For all my legacy funds owners, it further demonstrates our zeal to ensuring the safety of your funds. For the board and management team, this is another indication of a ‘first’ and measure of our strong corporate governance anchored on global best practices.
“As we speak, we have excess of N382 billion worth of assets under our management and we have paid N93.4 billion to retirees since inception to this date and we have paid every month,” he explained.
He said that when the company embarked on the project of ISO certification, it seem impossible but with commitment of management, they succeeded.
“We were determined to ensure that information assets coming from this company carried three pillars of integrity, confidentiality and availability.
“We want to ensure that the information that we give to our clients could be trusted and dependable.”
“For our RSA holders, they are going to see a difference in the way we do things and this has to do with our core values.”
Also, the Chairman of the company, Aliyu Dikko said the ISO certification is based on the firm’s need to satisfy its customers.
“You cannot satisfy your customer if you don’t have a well secure data base in your organisation. Pension is a long term business because it secures workers earning throughout their working life which they hope to earn after retirement. His document has to be well secured for at least 60 years,” Dikko said
